Salary Range: $102,559.72 to $152,700.02 per year DOE, DOQ

Brief Duties and Responsibilities: Plans, organizes, and directs the operation of the Community Development Department (CDD) including oversight of current planning, long range planning, special projects, building and code enforcement, burn control, and administrative support. The Director also serves as the SEPA Responsible Official. This is an administrative and professional planning position, providing policy guidance and recommendations to the Walla Walla County Planning Commission, the Hearing Examiner, and the Board of County Commissioners in the development, modification, and implementation of comprehensive plans, building and development codes, and environmental regulations. Supervisory Responsibilities: Has supervisory role and responsibilities for employees in planning, building, and code compliance, burn control, and administrative support.
Working Conditions: Work is administrative in nature and typically performed indoors with prolonged sitting and dexterity skills for computer use. Field work requires combinations of standing and walking, outdoors in various weather conditions, with occasional liftin of up to 30 pounds. Substantial attendance at meetings outside of normal operating hours is required.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred, in public administration, urban planning, or related field is required; and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a local planning organization, preferably within Washington State, utilizing land use controls and comprehensive plans and 4 years of management level experience in a planning and building department, preferably in a government setting.
