Position: Division Manager, Environmental Health
Salary Range: $77,263.51 to $113,569.86/annually; Starting Salary DOQ, DOE

Brief Duties and Responsibilities: Under limited supervision, plans, directs, manages, and enforces RCW and WAC regulations for the programs within Environmental Health including but not limited to; food protection, on-site sewage disposal, water supplies, solid waste handling, schools, swimming pools, insect and rodent control, epidemiology, and Emergency Preparedness. Assures compliance of program activities with department goals and objectives, State and Federal laws and county policies and procedures. The Manager routinely and consistently applies extensive knowledge of modern management techniques and concepts to situations involving administration, policy, and procedure development. Interprets and ensures compliance to Washington State Laws, sanitary codes and local regulations and codes and provides technical expertise to staff and community partners.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees field work and supervises staff occupying the positions of Environmental Health Specialist I and II, Program Coordinator Emergency Preparedness and office assistant staff when assigned to program area.
Working Environment/Physical Abilities: Working conditions are a mixture of office and fieldwork. Field work may be conducted outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather. Ability to drive an automobile and travel as required. Ability to lift and carry twenty-five (25) to forty (40) pounds. Requires sufficient hearing and speech ability to communicate verbally. Requires ability to tolerate environmental conditions such as odors, pets, dead animals, and tobacco smoke. Ability to navigate uneven surfaces (i.e., new proposed building sites, steep slopes, soil test holes). Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate personal computers, hand levels and lab equipment. May be required to stay at or return to work during public health incidents and/or emergencies to perform duties specific to an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
Minimum Qualifications: Education And Experience: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) involving major study in Environmental Public Health, sanitary science, bacteriology, public health, biology, or other closely related science is required. Must have a minimum of forty-five (45) quarter hours or thirty (30) semester hours of basic or natural sciences. Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience as an Environmental Public Health Specialist or equivalent. Must have been a supervisor for five (5) or more years.
Licenses And Other Requirements: Must successfully pass a background check and driving record check.
Valid driver’s license. Must be vaccinated per the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and other mandated vaccines by State, Federal or local officials. Provide documentation of immunization status or proof of immunity (titer) to vaccine preventable diseases. Required vaccines must be started within 14 days of employment and completed per ACIP schedule. Must be able to wear protective gear. Employee must participate in the employee health program. Registered Sanitarian preferred Must have a Certificate of Competency as an On-Site Sewage System Inspector or ability to obtain within 24 months of hire. Must complete Emergency Preparedness training IC-100 and IC-700 within 6 months; IC-800, IC-200 within one year IC-300 and IC-400 within 2 years of hire.
