Position: Horticultural Pest and Disease Control Board Coordinator
Salary Range: $24.21 per hour to $32.45 per hour, Starting Salary: DOQ, DOE
Location: WSU Extension Office
Employment Type: Part-time, seasonal, not to exceed 250 hours per year

Brief Duties and Responsibilities: The Horticulture Pest and Disease Control Program works to prevent and reduce the economic, environmental and social impacts of pests and diseases in Walla Walla County. The program’s focus is to achieve voluntary control of pests and diseases through education and technical assistance to landowners. Where this fails, regulatory compliance procedures may be used. This position will work closely with the WSU Extension County Director, Walla Walla County Horticulture Pest and Disease Control Board (HPDCB), Washington State Department of Agriculture, WSU Regional Specialists, designated working groups, County staff and other agencies and private landowners to develop and implement control activities in the county. The coordinator will be responsible for the pest and disease control outputs in the region.

Working Environment/Physical Abilities: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work from home using own computer and printer. Work in the field to collect samples for diagnosis.
Ability to travel to meetings and tradeshows and spend the night if necessary.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree or Two-year technical certificate required and two years of agricultural, horticultural or pest management experience, or equivalent years of experience. Bachelors’ Degree in Horticultural or a related field is preferred. Experience in horticulture pests and diseases.

Licenses and Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Current WSDA Pesticide Public Operator License within six months of employment. Access to a vehicle to attend meetings and work in the field.
